The Yellow Rose of Texas

The moment I arrived in California and had access to our cast portal, I put in a request to have the weekend of April 30-May 1 off of work. Why, you ask? Dapper Day Weekend of course! Dapper Day is a semi-annual event that started in February of 2011, at which guests attend Disney theme parks in their "Sunday Best," usually with a vintage flair! The events have gotten quite huge over the years and I've had the immense pleasure of attending twice before at Walt Disney World in Florida, but Dapper Day at Disneyland is a big deal and you best believe I was going come hell or high water.

The weekend finally arrived, and I spent the majority of Saturday at the Dapper Day Expo. Unfortunately (semi-fortunately), I didn't have a lot of money to spend, but I did get to meet more of the Pinup Girl Team and talk about the upcoming Mary Blair line, found some excellent new shops, made new friends and caught up with old ones! I left with a pair of earrings and a yellow rose for my hair, called it an early night, and went home to roll my hair and prep for the big day!

A little over two weeks ago, I still had no idea what I was wearing. Dressing the way I do every day and being out here where everything started, I wanted to step my style game up a level and really stun. Cut to a night of ogling vintage patio dresses on Etsy and finding an extraordinary yellow gingham number, with brown and silver ric rac and a matching kerchief. I purchased it immediately and got to work on styling. The dress felt very "Yellow Rose of Texas" so I decided to keep things simple with few accessories apart from a yellow rose from the stunning NiCoCo Creations and some big hair to put it in. I think the look came together quite nicely and I felt like Miss Texas Rodeo, 1958.

Dapper Day is also a wonderful opportunity to meet up with friends new and old (many of whom took these gorgeous pictures!) and catch up. Towards the end of the day we were all just crowded around a table at DCA, having margaritas and joking around, and I felt so much love and happiness I could burst. It was truly a little patch of heaven and the best way to get May started! I'm already counting down the days until the Fall Events (Hello, Epcot!) and I look forward to seeing what the team comes up with next!

Aint No Party like a Radiator Springs Party

Alas, I've reached the midpoint of my time in California. It's hard to be sad about that though when there's so much fun to be had! Case in point; Tuesday night the Disneyland College Program Housing Team threw us a private party in Cars Land after park close! There we could dance the night away, take copious photos, ride Luigi's Rollickin Roadsters, and spend a fun evening with the people who've become our family!

The best part of the whole event was that guests were encouraged to dress in theme, as the party was a tribute to the Date Nites at Disneyland! Everyone was dressed so well and it was completely lovely to see! For my part, I opted to wear my beloved Pinup Girl Clothing Ella Dress in Mary Blair's Lips and Roses print. It looked absolutely beautiful under the neon and I loved the tea length. It makes me so excited for the blue colorway to come out!

The Ultimate PUG Weekend, Pt. 2

On Tuesday I wrote about the beginning of my Ultimate PUG Weekend and the beauty of the Lydia dress, but now it's time for the nitty gritty, The Semi-Annual PUG Yardsale and Pinup Parade in the Park! So let's get down to business!

I arrived at the Anaheim Marriott around 11:30 PM for wristband distribution. There was a some confusion about where exactly it was going to happen and how they'd be passed out, but after about 45 minutes different members of Team PUG stepped out with the bands and I was lucky enough to snag one for the 10 AM shopping window! The next day I arrived; caffeinated, ready to shop, and surrounded by hundreds of other beautiful PUG fans. We were allowed into the ballroom at 10:30 and I swear I heard the Hallelujah chorus as I entered. On my first round I was able to score (via dressing room trades, kind strangers, and a keen eye on the racks) a pale turquoise Little Jun Skirt and I had my hands on a gorgeous yellow Dee Dee Dress that I woefully had to put back. Once I checked out I stowed my shopping bag, grabbed a cup of coffee, and got in line for the general shopping session (very close to the front this time, I might add)! It was then I was joined by my roommate and together we waited eagerly for those magical doors to open once again. On our second round we were ready for action, and I rolled in ready to go! This time I left with a stunning white Vamp Top, an Evelyn Dress in Baby Blue with Pink Roses, and a Scrumptious Sleeveless Dress in Leopard (on final sale now!) and my roommate snagged a Neverland Print Jenny Skirt and Laura Byrnes Eva Trousers!

I broke off one of my claws in the madness! Badge of Victory, I say!

The next day I woke up, coiffed myself together, and trekked to the happiest place for Pinup Parade in the Park! I was thrilled to wear a Jenny Dress in Stephanie Buscema's gorgeous Snow White print that I'd received at Christmas this past year. The fit was perfect and the dress itself was vibrant and beautiful. It paired nicely with my favorite lime green hair scarf from Spellbound bows and a black Celebration "D" Brooch that I won in a Match Accessories instagram contest!

I received a Team Pinup goodie bag at the entrance that had a coupon code, a sticker, and a couple of fun Pinup Girl Buttons. It also had a schedule for the days events which included two rounds of trivia, a ridethrough on Pirates of the Caribbean, and a group photo in front of the castle. Throughout the day I met a number of pinups who I've admired via the internet for ages and so many beautiful and lovely ladies in the Disney Pinup Community! I was even lucky enough to win a $75 store credit in the second round of Disney Trivia, so it looks like I'll be going shopping soon.

The Ultimate PUG Weekend, Pt. 1

I was first introduced to Pinup Girl Clothing several years ago. While perusing through Dapper Day pictures I was hypnotized by a woman's dress which was pink, fluffy, and adorned with a beautiful Neverland print. I messaged the girl on tumblr immediately to find out the details and what followed was a tumble down the rabbit hole and into my literal dream closet. I followed them for years, admiring from afar, dreaming of someday owning one of their beautiful garments. I watched from across the country as girls attended PUG's famous yard sales and then showed off their purchases the following day at Disneyland for the bi-annual Pinup Parade in the Park, never knowing if I'd get to attend one myself (always dressing up anyway, regardless of location).

The straw that broke the camel's back was the Magic of Mary Blair collection. The picture above is me right as my first PUG purchase, the Mary Blair Trains print Jenny Skirt, arrived and I couldn't wait more than .000001 seconds to rip open the bag and put it on!

Cut to last November, when I found out I'd be moving out to Anaheim for the Disney College Program, and immediately put together a list of events that I was going to attend come hell or high water, and you bet your bippy that my PUG weekend was high on my list. Once I arrived here and had access to our Cast Portal, I put in my requests and lo and behold I got Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to celebrate my absolute favorite clothing company and the community that it's created.

I started on Friday morning, donning my Mary Blair Mother and Child print Lydia dress for a day at the parks. This print was not one that had immediately jumped out at me when they were revealed, and the amount of white on the dress gave me pause (especially considering my great love of coffee and tendency to spill it on everything), but I took the leap and could not be happier. My PUG fit is usually a Large, given my wide ribcage and bountiful bum, and the Lydia fits very true to size. I will have to invest in a better bra to wear with this one, since my strapless bras have all moved on to the great lingerie store in the sky and the Lydia is quite booby. It's worth noting that Supreme Overlord Laura Byrnes did comment today in the Pinup Girl Clothing Customer Lounge that the Lydia has been redesigned for more coverage and room, which I'll be sure to report back on once I get my hands on the Pinup Couture Lydia Dress in Mary Blair Circus Elephant Print.

Oswald just loved my dress! We twirled and played for several minutes while a group was being tossed out of DCA like 10 feet away from us, so it was an eventful meet and greet.

Is it any coincidence that both times I've gotten to meet Oswald, I've been in PUG and we've been completely in love? I certainly don't think so.

All in all it was a beautiful and fun day at the parks. Wristband distribution for the Yard Sale the following day began at Midnight so I called it a day pretty early and went home to give my wallet a pep talk. Do tune in on thursday for Part Two of my Ultimate Pug weekend to see how we did!

Urban Lights

Hello Void! Do you remember that time I started a blog and then never posted anything again? Me too, but now I'm diving back in.

This week my roommate and I took a train out of the Disney Berm for a day of touring in LA. We started at FIDM for the 24th Annual Art of Motion Picture Costume Design. It's something I've been hearing I need to go to since I've arrived, and I couldn't be more thrilled with it! My love for Sandy Powell's Cinderella (2015) costume designs is well documented across all of my social media platforms, and to see the actual dress in person (as well as the Tremaine's dresses) took my breath away!

After FIDM we ventured toward Whimsic Alley and had lunch at Milk Jar Cookies. I had the best cup of coffee and cookies of my life, so they can expect me to move in any day now. We then hopped a train toward LACMA and the La Brea Tarpits (I had no idea they were right next door to each other). The park was absolutely beautiful, so lush and green in the middle of the city. We also accidentally snuck into LACMA and saw the Japanese Art exhibit. For the most part though, we played in the outdoor installations and took obnoxious photos in Urban Light.

We still had a few hours before our train back to Anaheim, so we grabbed a bus to Hollywood Boulevard and played tourists in the rain. There's something fantastic and surreal about having seen something so many times in TV and Film and going to the real thing, it's so cheesey I could die. I spotted my favorite stars (Rod Serling, Disneyland, Boris Karloff) and snagged the greatest Elvira shirt of all time. It was a perfect way to end the day!

My look for the day felt appropriate and fun for a day of tourism! The entire aesthetic screamed, "Hollywood called, Mama! They say I'm gonna be a star!"

A Bit of Character

If you've been following my Disney adventures on instagram, you probably know I have a weakness for Character Meets. Even when I'm by myself in the park, nothing's more fun than stopping by to say hello to my Fab 5, some lovely princesses, and their magnificent villains! Today I got up, ready for an easy park day. Nothing to rush to, nowhere in particular to go. I threw my hair into a makeshift bouffant and got ready for a day of wandering about my new home! I'm pretty happy with how the look turned out; a little Rosie the Riveter, a little 60's bandit lady, and all with my favorite Erstwilder lady as my co-pilot.

I can't speak highly enough of Erstwilder brooches. I snapped this one up around black friday, it was my first piece of theirs, and I am truly, profoundly in love with it! My fancy lady and I are both gonna look real fab all the time always, and I love her so much.

After I got to the park, I went to the Zootopia preview in the Bug's Life Theater. Loved the preview, definitely cannot wait to see the movie. As I was heading over toward Disneyland I spotted a couple of Dapper Ducks and I RAN to meet those beauties!

Daisy and I had a great time talking fashion, and her #1 Duck!

I also ended up in Arendelle with a delightful snowman who loves warm hugs! We were real cute until we tried to take a kissy picture and I got lipstick all over his nose!

Once I was in Disneyland, I spotted my beautiful Fairy Godmother and I absolutely had to say hello!

Internally screaming.

And finally, no character day is complete without meeting The Big Cheese! Mickey's Diamond Celebration suit is just magnificent. All the detail and shine in it is so divine, I wish it photographed better! We talked at length about how much I liked it though, and he really liked my bow!

The Start of Something New

Welcome aboard! This week was the start of a number of new things in my life. I've moved out to California from the land of peaches and peanuts, I've started work at the Happiest Place, and finally, I've officially started my blog! Hooray for new things!
Since moving back here I've spent just about every day at Disneyland. The atmosphere, the history, and the true magic of it all makes me feel more at home than most places. Here I can be myself, crinoline and all. Almost a week ago, I came in with a friend to see the Disneyland Trains. While they're not in service for construction of Star Wars Land, the engines are parked at the stations where guests can get close up looks into the Lily Belle car, the engine room, and even here some of the history and fun facts about the trains from the engineers who drive these beauties each day. For a super Disney History nerd like myself, it was a dream come true!
This locomotive in particular, the E.P. Ripley, is Engine No. 2 in our fleet of four steam engines and also happens to be the train Walt rode into Disneyland on opening day over 60 years ago. The reason he rode in on Engine No. 2 and not No. 1 is because when they were prepping the engines for the park, the folks working on Engine No. 1 made it too quiet for Walt. He wanted that roar of a real train engine, the same he'd heard as a boy. Since No. 2 still sounded like the trains of his past, that's the one Walt chose to ride in on that historic day.
I opted for a comfortable pinup look that day, with a bit of a 60s feel. I wanted to wear my new Mischief Made Peach State shirt since it's the cutest representation of the place I call home. Throw on some lucite earrings and a pair of high waisted jeans and I was ready to go!

Sorry for the wrinkles, it's been a fun and busy week! If you're in Disneyland anytime soon, do be sure to drop by the Main Street Train Station for some magic and memories! 'Til next time!
